Re: Obama's strategy in Afghanistan - ignorance is bliss by Dr. Mohamed Elmasry

Roman Mukerjee, Ottawa and Roy V., Belgium

Dr Elmasry,

Let me immediately commend you for the article you so clearly wrote on the current political status in Afghanistan where the "foreign" troops face the effective guerilla Taliban forces in a specific cultural context.

Those of us like me who come from India are fully aware of such a conflict and the likely result, at an unnecessary tragic price.

Most embarrassing is the award of a Nobel Peace Prize to Obama to send 30,000 extra troops to be trapped, with tragic results. This only antagonizes the relations between the West and the Islamic world.

Dear Sir,

You address the lack of knowledge of the Taliban by the US/The West and by the think tanks/institutes/academic world. I couldn’t agree more.

Roy V., Belgium
